Thurles 35-7 Killorglin
On the feast of St Bridid the young men from the Premier travelled to the Kingdom to take on Killorglin in a crunch match but would return home as King's.
In the final match for Thurles in their group we headed to Killorglin in Kerry on a sunny Sunday morning. A much needed break from the biblical rain during the week. The going was soft on the pitch but the determination was strong. The lads knew the importance of a win and went about that in earnest. With a midday kick off it was ten past the hour and Finn Green opened the scoring and less than ten minutes later he would add to that tally which would be unanswered before half time. There were some infringements by Thurles earning a yellow card.
The second half kicked off and within a few minutes Killorglin would make their way down the wing from a well executed penalty. Thurles replied with MJ Burke powering through a strong defence to land a try. 20mins into the half and Mark Boland supported by James Verling got across for the fourth. It was then that Thurles hit a snag when a second yellow turned into a red putting Thurles down to 14 but with a tactical reshuffle and some fresh legs off the equally strong subs bench they took on the challenge. The final score went over from a gazelle-like Oscar Caffrey barreling down the pitch. Kicking duties lay with and well executed by Victor Perdriau. With one more game to be played within the group to complete proceedings Thurles take top spot in their group. Plenty learning to take away and work on as the team return to training this week but an excellent game which was also complemented by the match day referee. Our thanks to Killorglin for a great game and we wish them well for the remainder of the season.
